  • Born June 25, 1954, in the Bronx, NY.
  • Attended Princeton University (B.A., 1976) and Yale Law School (J.D., 1979)
  • As a judge on the U.S. District Court, she issued a preliminary injunction against Major League Baseball, which ended the 1994 baseball strike.
  • Nominated by President Barack Obama, in May 2009,to fill the seat of retiring Justice David Souter
  • Confirmed by the full Senate by a vote of 68-31.  She took the oath on August 8, 2009.
  • She is the first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice and the third woman to serve.
